The SECRET, The SILENCE, The LIGHT

A true story of moving from trauma to transformation, written for anyone who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or misunderstood.

The book begins with the secret I carried as a child and explores the silence that followed me through different parts of my life.

I spent my early years in Dublin and England learning to hide my feelings just to survive. Abuse taught me to keep quiet. Even when I found freedom and identity building a television career in London during the nineteen eighties, that silence remained.

Then life changed the plan completely. I faced devastating losses, including miscarriages and a cancer diagnosis that literally stole my speech. I had lost my physical voice. It felt like the end of the story.

But I refuse to leave you in the darkness. Through art, healing, and creativity, I rebuilt my life. I discovered a much deeper voice. This is a story about finding hope when you cannot yet see the way forward.

Annette O'Donnell

Annette O'Donnell is an artist, author, and teacher who knows exactly what it means to start over. Born in Dublin in the mid nineteen sixties, she moved to England as a child and endured years of hidden trauma. She later studied art in London and built a vibrant career in the television and film industry.

After losing her speech to tongue cancer as a young wife, Annette turned to art to heal and communicate. She started a small art group around her dining table, which eventually grew into Artskool for Kids, a program that has inspired thousands of children. Today, her work centers around healing, channelled art, and angels. Her pieces are exhibited globally, including in hospices, bringing light to those who need it most.
